Comedian Dane Cook paid a visit Monday night to the newly opened watering hole that came in a tie for the best bar on the planet — a designation that fans likely will want to stop by before boarding their flight to the front gates of paradise.
The British pub-crawl company has sold vacation packages featuring visits to four of the company’s concept bars on the Silver Coast.
All have garnered world-class acclaim. They range from vibrant and fun to smart and intellectual.
The newest addition is the Shoreditch Canning Ship in Brisbane, which has been hailed as the best English pub. It attracted 1.4 million Facebook views in the first year of operation, according to travel company Thomas Cook. It comes with its own map of places to see on the Pearl Coast, including Australian icons such as George’s on the Beach, and the eclectic nightlife draws into a one-stop commercial destination for caffeine, restaurants and shopping.

“I’m with them 100 percent,” said Cook, a veteran of television shows such as “Dane Cook Show” and “Dane Cook Red Light Special,” who visited the Shoreditch Canning Ship to mark the opening of the bar and the start of a worldwide tour.

This crowd probably isn’t familiar with the city’s classic bar decor, but it features modern production-style bartops and even a retractable roof, enclosed for evening partying or in winter for a gloaming atmosphere.
An Australian wine cellar sits in the back of the building, the former New York Times bureau in Brisbane. A free-form solar-pod beer garden features man-made artificial fog and soil that is saturated with carbon dioxide.
Former Army specialist and physical education teacher Chris Hammond, who opened the Shoreditch Canning Ship last year, attributes the fancy interior to his interaction with artists and musicians, like Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen.
The other four concept bars on the Silver Coast are The Broken Shaker, in a three-story space that looks to mimic a house with a main hall, a dormitory room and a living room. The dining room has chef-driven cuisine that includes locally produced hickory pork, whitefish with lemon and seaweed, and oysters with lime and chile.
The Firehook is a house-made coffee and brown sugar bar with a three-story ice sculpture. Its build-your-own bespoke ice cream is a world’s first at a Bar or Restaurant.
At Tinga, a foodie destination in a restored property near the sea, the restaurant features fresh seafood and playful cocktails. Tasting menus encourage the focus on craft over mass production.
